The mayor of Sun Valley cut a check for more than $33,000 to Blaine County in December to clear up an issue with back taxes. The check included more than $5,000 in interest for taxes due as far back as 2009.
This morning's Idaho Mountain Express reports that Dewayne Briscoe paid the delinquent taxes on Dec. 2.
In December, Briscoe said his son was responsible for putting properties into a trust, but his son died last summer and that the delinquency was probably a "misunderstanding" or "oversight," according to the Mountain Express. Briscoe said he was unaware he owed the money until he was informed by a Mountain Express reporter.
“The citizens should know that since I bought the property in 1979, I’ve paid over $240,000 in property taxes on [the property],” Briscoe told the Mountain Express.
