Scores of recreationists are expected to work up a pretty good appetite today as Sun Valley opens up its 77th winter season.

Both Bald and Dollar mountains opened this morning, with Baldy offering top-to-bottom skiing on the River Run side. On Dollar Mountain, one lift—Quarter Dollar—is running today, allowing access to Poverty Flats and Quarter Dollar Bowl.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports that lift tickets have increased slightly this year, costing snowboarders or skiiers anywhere from $66 to $99 for a day on the mountain. Sun Valley's value season, which runs from today through Dec. 16 and again from April 1 through the end of the season, offers a full-day adult ticket for $66, while the peak season, which runs from Dec. 22 through Jan. 1 and again from Feb. 16-24, offers a full-day adult ticket for $99.

On Friday, Grand Targhe Resort in Alta, Wyo., opens for the season with three of its five lifts expected to be running.

And this Saturday, the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village, Wyo., will open for the season and christen its new high-speed Casper Quad lift, promising to handle twice the capacity in a third of the time to get up the mountain, compared to the lift it replaced.
