A group of Canyon County businesses are stepping up to help out the financially challenged Nampa School District by channeling fiscal support directly to students and teachers.
This morning's Idaho Press-Tribune reports that a group called Supply Our Students has pulled together to raise $270,000 to help fill the school supplies gap that Nampa children and educators face because of the district's $4.3 million budget shortfall.
The S.O.S. campaign is taking credit card donations at supplyourstudents.com and will collect in-person donations on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Nampa Civic Center.
Nampa teachers had originally been allocated $300 each to buy supplies, but those funds were cut when the school district began drowning in red ink.
The Press-Tribune is a part of the campaign, along with Saint Alphonsus Hospital, Northwest Nazarene University, the College of Western Idaho and Nampa Chamber of Commerce.
