Mayor Dave Bieter has recruited the United Way of the Treasure Valley's CEO Derick O'Neill to become Boise's new director of planning and development. O'Neill's appointment is expected to be confirmed at a special City Council meeting Tuesday, Nov. 6.

If approved, O'Neill would replace former PDS Director Bruce Chatterton.

O'Neill served as president and managing partner of O'Neill Enterprises, which helped craft Bown Crossing, River Run and Surprise Valley residential developments. Additionally, he served in leadership with the Boise Parks and Recreation Commission, the Boise School District Board of Trustees and the Treasure Valley Family YMCA.

“There is no city position more critical to managing Boise’s return to economic health than the director of Planning and Development Services,” said Bieter. “With Derick’s well-rounded experience, I’m confident he is the right person to foster high-quality community development and to accelerate the city’s economic recovery.”
