Star-News: McCall Police Chief Plans to Sue Valley County Officials For Libel

The bad blood between Valley County officials and McCall's chief of police is getting worse.

This morning's McCall Star-News reports that McCall Police Chief Jerry Summers is planning to sue Valley County officials for libel and slander.

"False statements about me publicly have tarnished my stellar career and reputation," wrote Summer in a tort clam. "There is no question the acts committed by Valley County were done with full intent and malice."

Earlier this year, Summers recommended charges against Valley County Sheriff Patti Bolen for resisting and obstructing officers for failing to book a suspect in connection with an October arson at a Cascade school. Summers was called in to investigate the arson since he is a trained arson investigator. Summers launched a probe into the incident, but Bolen refused to be interviewed by Summers and she ordered her subordinates not to cooperate.

In his tort claim, Summers named Bolen, Valley County commissioners Gordon Cruickshank and Ray Moore and Boise attorney Michael Kane, who advised the commissioners.

Summers declined to comment to the Star-News regarding his claim.
