Canyon County Republican Rep. Brandon Hixon, running for re-election to serve Caldwell's District 10, insists that his run-ins with the law were "youthful indiscretions," telling the Idaho Press-Tribune that the five convictions he received before he was 21 don't represent who he is today.

Hixon is running against Democratic challenger Travis Manning, a teacher at Vallivue High School.

The Press-Tribune reports that Hixon, 30, has 15 infractions, including speeding, using an invalid driver's license, urinating in public and illegal possession of alcohol. Hixon was also ordered in small claims court to pay past due rent in 2003 and 2005.

"It's not a reflection on what's going to happen in the future," Hixon told the Press-Tribune. "You basically grow up. You understand what true responsibility is. You make commitments and you stick to them."
