130 Firefighters Continue to Battle Karney Fire

Approximately 20 firefighters worked through the night, battling the Karney Fire, which has scorched more than 300 acres in Boise County. More than 110 other firefighting personnel joined the fight at sunrise.

Fire managers are using multiple retardant drops and a helicopter dropping water on the flames. Additionally, hot shot crews are containing a number of spot fires and so-called "slop overs" that crossed the Wilderness Ridge Road in several locations of Wilderness Ranch.

Boise County's Board of Commissioners signed a declaration of disaster emergency Tuesday, allowing the county to apply for state and federal financial assistance.

On Tuesday, 18-year-old Nathaniel Bartholomew, a volunteer fireman from the the area, was locked up and charged with felony arson in connection with the fire. Boise County Undersheriff Dale Rogers told Citydesk that he believed Bartholomew started the fire in an attempt "to get a relative's attention." Bartholomew's father is also a volunteer firefighter.

Approximately 130 firefighting personnel are battling the Karney Fire.
