Idaho now has statewide data on how its students perform on college entrance exams.

The SAT, once an acronym for the Scholastic Aptitude Test, has become an empty acronym, but it remains a standardized examination of choice colleges use to evaluate student applications.

In April, 17,000 Idaho high-school juniors took state-funded SAT college entrance examinations. That's an explosive rise since 2011, when a total of 2,829 students took the SAT.

One in four of them met career- and college-readiness standards set by the College Board.

The average score for Idaho juniors was 448 in critical reading, 454 in mathematics, and 447 in writing.
