Things went from bad to worse early today when Boise Police officers tried to stop a motorist for erratic driving and ended with law enforcement spotting a handgun and open can of malt liquor in the vehicle.
Boise Police said 44-year-old John Hoverson of Meridian failed several field sobriety tests and blew .11 and .12 blood alcohol levels. Police allegedly observed Hoverson coming within inches of striking other vehicles and curbs and driving into the opposite lane of traffic.
Police said when Hoverson took off on foot, they spotted a handgun on the driver's seat and also recovered an open 24-ounce can of malt liquor from the vehicle.
Hoverson faces felony charges of weapon possession and parole violation, and misdemeanor charges of DUI, driving without privileges and violating the open-container law.
