Old-Fashioned North Idaho Jailbreak

Using old-school jailbreak methods, a pair of inmates broke out of the Benewah County Jail Thursday, making their escape by tunneling through a wall and using bed sheet-ropes. But the inmates were caught several hours later.

This morning's Coeur d'Alene Press reports that the escape wasn't all that shocking, at least in Benewah County. The local prosecutor said it was the fourth escape from the jail since he had been there and three by the same method. Just last year, another inmate tunneled the walls of the jail to escape twice. The jail was built in 1920.

Tyler Walton, 20, was being held at the jail for violating the terms of his probation. He had previously been charged with burglary and drug use. Todd Miller, 40, was in custody awaiting charges on suspected grand theft. They now face additional escape charges.
