A fire that began near Ourada Ranch outside of Boise grew to 419 acres Monday, requiring a drop from a DC-10 tanker. About 12,000 gallons of fire retardant were spread across the fire before the plane made its way back to Moses Lake, Wash., according to KTVB.

Firefighters contained the blaze by 3:30 p.m., but only after flames neared Cartwright and Sage Creek roads. The fire may have been caused by crews cutting a metal fence, with sparks possibly igniting nearby brush.

The smoke from that fire contributes to the Treasure Valley's already hazy air quality and hot weather, but the National Weather Service predicts temperatures may drop later in the week, while an orange air-quality alert lingers.
