The head of the Bonneville County Republican Party is being sued to recover funds allegedly paid to him from an elaborate ponzi scheme, the largest fraud of its kind in Idaho history, according to prosecutors.

The Idaho Falls Post Register reports that Bonneville GOP Central Committee Chairman Doyle Beck is accused of lending an acquaintance half-a-million dollars, which was allegedly paid back, with interest, using money from an alleged ponzi company, The Trigon Group.

A court receiver has sued Beck for $550,000, saying the money should be returned to the victims of the ponzi scheme. Beck insists that the money came from his friend, not innocent investors.

Beck's trial got under way Tuesday in a U.S. District Court in Pocatello.
