In the wake of an investigation into missing funds, officials with the City of Coeur d'Alene had a simple message for a 10-year veteran of the Finance Department: "You're fired."
This morning's Coeur d'Alene Press reports that the employee didn't show up late Tuesday afternoon for a personnel meeting with department heads to address allegations that she stole city funds.
"The result is that the employee is terminated," City Attorney Mike Gridley told the Press. "They had the hearing, the evidence was presented, she was not there."
The city has not revealed the employee's name, but it may soon become public. The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office is investigating at least five allegedly fraudulent transactions, and law enforcement is expected to make an announcement within a few days.
