Candidates for the position of McCall city manager are being given the once-over today in the Valley County city. One of the six semifinalists is expected to replace outgoing McCall City Manager Lindley Kirkpatrick, who resigned in May after 13 years with the city.

But this morning's McCall Star-News reports that the interview process with the McCall City Council is behind closed doors. In fact, McCall city officials have decided not to let their citizenry know anything about the candidates. All that is known, according to the Star-News, is that one candidate is from Idaho, one from Nevada, one from Florida and three are from Utah.

After today's interviews, the council is expected to narrow candidates down to anywhere from one to three finalists.

An editorial in the Star-News chastises city officials for not keeping their constituency in the know.

"Who are these people who aspire to lead the city in the coming years?" asks the Star-News. "No one knows except for a select group of people and they aren’t talking. No applications have been released. In fact, the only information we know of the six finalists are the states in which they live. And, Friday’s interviews will be conducted behind closed doors for reasons that have not been fully explained."
