Idaho Police Chief Accused of Sexual Harassment

The Chief of Police in the North Idaho city of Spirit Lake is being accused of sexually harassing one of his officers.

This morning's Coeur d'Alene Press reports that Crystal Sudol is alleging that police chief Patrick Lawless inappropriately touched her and was the subject of sexual remarks in a series of incidents beginning March 2011.

"The daily statements made to [Sudol] throughout her employment were sexual, offensive, unwelcome, severe and pervasive," read Sudol's claim.

Additionally, Sudol alleges that Spirit Lake Mayor Todd Clary was aware of the incidents but "failed to take swift and appropriate action against Lawless."

Sudol is threatening a $5 million suit against the police chief and the City of Spirit Lake.

Making matters more complicated is a separate investigation into Lawless. Post Falls Police Chief Scot Haug confirmed that his department is investigating a complaint against Lawless but wouldn't elaborate on details.
