Saying it wanted "to avoid distractions," West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell said Friday that it had mutually agreed to a parting of the ways with former Republican State Sen. John McGee, who had been employed as marketing director and hospital spokesman.
McGee's legal troubles doubled-down on Tuesday when he was booked into the Ada County Jail for the second time in less than a year. Following a June 2011 episode during which McGee admitted to having too much to drink, taking a stranger's SUV and crashing the vehicle into someone's front lawn, McGee pleaded guilty to misdemeanor DUI and was sentenced to a year of unsupervised probation.
But this past week, Ada County prosecutors slapped McGee with a charge of disturbing the peace in connection with a Statehouse incident in which he allegedly used "offensive language and/or conduct in the presence of a state employee." In February, a female Senate attache blew the whistle on the man who was once considered one of the GOP's up-and-comers, leading to his resignation from the Legislature.
McGee is scheduled for sentencing in Boise's 4th District Court on Tuesday, Aug. 21.
