NBC News reports that two pilots, both from Boise, were killed over the weekend when the air tanker they were flying crashed near the Utah-Nevada border. The P2V Lockheed Martin tanker was piloted by Capt. Todd Tompkins and co-piloted by First Officer Ronnie Chambless, both from Boise.

The aircraft, on its second run of the day, was holding approximately 1,600 gallons of fuel on board, in addition to 2,000 gallons of fire retardant. The plane crashed as it was nearing a blaze in the Hamlin Valley area of Iron County, Utah.
