A routine traffic stop turned from bad to worse early this morning. When police wrapped up their investigation, a Boise woman was charged with five felonies, including injury to a child, assault on an officer, fleeing and evading, and driving under the influence. Rebecca McCallum-Cameron, 39, was also charged with a violation of probation and violating Boise's open container law.
Police stopped McCallum-Cameron near Curtis and Cassia streets after they said she ran a red light. According to the arrest report, as officers were speaking with the driver, she drove away, almost striking an officer, and then rear-ended a police vehicle. Officers also noted that the woman had a small child in the car with her. Following a brief chase, the woman smashed through a gate of a recycling businesses on Emerald Street. By the time police caught up to the car, the woman and child had fled but were found hiding underneath a vehicle in an adjacent parking lot. McCallum-Cameron had prior convictions for DUI.
