Idaho Judge Cited For DUI

A Twin Falls County magistrate judge will not be hearing any DUI cases anytime soon. Justice Nicole Cannon will be busy handling her own dispute after being arrested on April 19.

The Twin Falls Times-News reports that Cannon was cited for DUI, alleging that she was driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.20 or higher. Cannon has pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor.

Cannon, a former Minidoka County prosecuting attorney, was chosen to replace outgoing Judge Howard Smyser in January 2011. She has been practicing law since 1998. At the time of her appointment, her biography read:

"[Cannon] specialized in the prosecution of child sexual offenses, drug offenses and DUIs."

The Idaho Code of Judicial Conduct requires judges to "conduct themselves in a manner that does not detract from public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary."
