Survey Tracks Workers Who Call in Sick

It turns out that most people who call in sick ... are actually sick.

New research, conducted by the career website theFIT, reveals that 84 percent of the people surveyed said they were sick or were caring for a sick child the last time they called in sick. In fact, only one in five men and one in seven women were lying about their most recent sick day.

Those that did admit to lying said they used the day off to play hooky, or take a "mental health day." Others said they were suffering from hangovers or interviewing for another job.

Not only were women less likely to fake a sick day, they also reported working longer days and taking less vacation than their male counterparts, according to the survey. Fifty-four percent of women reported working nine or more hours a day, compared to 41 percent of men.
