Iona Republican Rep. Tom Loertscher, chair of the House State Affairs Committee, said this morning that the controversial ultrasound bill awaiting action in his committee is dead for now.
Loertscher told The Spokesman Review's Betsy Russell that there wasn't enough support to call for a hearing on the measure, which would have required Idaho women to have an ultrasound before an abortion, without exceptions for victims of rape or incest.
"We will not be scheduling a hearing on it," said Loertscher. "The big problem that's been identified is the mandatory ultrasound."
Loertscher said that lawmakers may "make a run at this in a little bit different way" in 2013.
