Andreason Stepping Down From Legislature, Peavey-Derr to Run For Senate

Boise Republican Sen. John Andreason is stepping away from the Idaho Legislature.

The 10-term legislator chose not to file for re-election in District 15. His seat will be contested by Republican Fred Martin and Democrat Betty Richardson.

Another political veteran, Judy Peavey-Derr, filed Friday to run for the Idaho Senate, for the chance to represent Boise's 17th District. Peavey-Derr is a former Ada County commissioner and current commissioner for the Greater Boise Auditorium District. She will challenge Thomas Bullock in the May GOP primary. The winner will run against Democratic incumbent Sen. Elliot Werk.

In West Ada County's District 14, a number of legislators, past and present, will run for the open Senate seat. Republican Rep. Marv Hagedorn, who was reapportioned into a new district, has decided to run for the Senate in the GOP primary, where he'll be challenged by former Sen. Stan Bastian and former Rep. Gary Bauer. No Democratic candidate filed to run for the seat, but Al Shoushtarian, an Eagle City Councilman, has announced his intention to run as an independent candidate.
