Six Candidates Express Interest in Replacing McGee

In the wake of last Wednesday's resignation of Caldwell Republican Sen. John McGee after he was accused of sexual harassment by a legislative staffer, Canyon County Republican officials are getting ready to move on.

The 10th District Committee of Canyon County Republicans have scheduled a public meeting for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 29, in which they will select three possible candidates from a list of six individuals interested in replacing McGee. The committee will submit three names to Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter who will choose one person to serve out the balance of McGee's term.

The six people who have expressed interest are: Dr. John Blaisdell (a dentist), Matt Dorsey (whose family owns a dairy farm), Donald Easteppe (a substance abuse counselor), Brandon Hixon (an insurance agent), Kent Marmon (former Caldwell City Council member) and Jim Rice (an attorney).

Wednesday's meeting will be held at the Caldwell Public Library.
