The Associated Press reports that Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said Tuesday that a plan to put an effort to privatize liquor sales before voters this November might be illegal.

The AP's John Miller reported that Wasden's office has reviewed a citizen's initiative looking to put the issue before voters this November, but Wasden concluded that the Idaho Legislature may have the ultimate say in the matter.

"In the event the initiative passes, this provision may reflect one avenue by which the initiative could be challenged under the Idaho Constitution," wrote Wasden.

The group behind the voter initiative, the Idaho Federation of Reagan Republicans, was still weighing its options. Another group looking to privatize liquor sales, the Northwest Grocery Association, has indicated that it would prefer to take up the matter in 2013 before the Idaho Legislature.
