Simpson Wants Lawmakers to Rethink Wind Projects

Idaho Falls Republican Rep. Erik Simpson wants the Idaho Legislature to reconsider a moratorium on wind farms.

After failing to move a similar bill out of committee in 2011, Simpson has unveiled a 2012 version, calling for a two-year wind development project moratorium in Idaho. Projects already in the pipeline would not be impacted.

Simpson is introducing the measure before the House Local Government Committee this year, rather than the House State Affairs Committee where it was shot down last year by a 10-8 vote.

The centerpiece of Simpson's legislation would be the creation of an eight-member task force—four members each from the House and Senate—to study wind-energy developments and ultimately report to the governor and legislature in January 2014.
