SuperValu, which gobbled up Albertsons six years ago, continues to have a smaller and smaller Idaho footprint.
The Minneapolis-based mega-grocer has decided to lay off approximately 130 of its Boise corporate workforce by the end of the month. The cuts were part of a nationwide reduction of 800 positions. SuperValu said that approximately 1,000 employees will remain at its Boise corporate offices.
Since its takeover of Albertsons, Boise leaders have pleaded with SuperValu to keep a strong corporate presence in the Treasure Valley, but layoffs have followed, including a round of finance department redundancies in January 2010 and outsourcing of information technology positions in October 2011.
SuperValu stock was trading near $7 per share this morning on the NASDAQ exchange. In March 2010, SuperValu was trading at more than $17 per share.
