Two Strikes and He's Out: Perry Quits Presidential Campaign

Following dismal showings in Iowa and New Hampshire, and after spending buckets of money from campaign donors, Rick Perry pulled out of the race for the White House this morning, two days before the South Carolina primary.

In announcing his withdrawal, Perry threw his support to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who is narrowing the lead in the most recent polls of South Carolina Republicans.

When he announced his candidacy last summer, Perry shot to the top of the polls. But a series of debate stumbles, followed by a fifth-place showing in the Iowa caucuses and sixth-place in the New Hampshire primary, dashed his presidential hopes.
