Durst, Ward-Engelking Running for Legislature Again

Two familiar names declared their candidacies to represent Boise's District 18 this morning.

Former Democratic member of the Idaho House Branden Durst will run for the state Senate, presumably against incumbent Republican Sen. Mitch Toryanski. Durst lost to Toryanski by 103 votes in the 2010 election.

"Sen. Toryanski was a critical vote in ensuring the passage of the Luna Laws, which seek to trade teachers for laptops, mandate onlines courses, and will likely increase class sizes," said Durst. "The imbalance in our state has created an environment where ethical lapses are routinely ignored by the majority party."

Fellow Democrat Janie Ward-Engelking will wage her second camapign for House Seat A in the District 18. She lost by an even closer margin in 2010 to Republican Rep. Julie Ellsworth.

"It is time to restore a representative government," said Ward-Engelking. "A focus on job creation, education and responsible governance will help renew prosperity in District 18."
