JUMP Construction to Begin With Demolition of Warehouse

The Simplot family won't be wasting any time in the new year with an aggressive schedule to begin the construction of the $70 million Jack's Urban Meeting Place, better known as JUMP, named for the family's late patriarch.

Work on JUMP's 7.5-acre site, framed by Ninth and 11th and Front and Myrtle streets, will begin with demolition of the old Compton warehouse building. The entire building, which faces Ninth Street, is expected to come down in two months. Additionally, a fence will be installed around the property in January as heavy equipment moves into the area.

"The demolition involves tearing a structure down," said project director Maggie Soderberg. "But it also signals the visible start of building a project that will add a new dimension to Boise."

Underground work for JUMP was given the green light by Boise's Planning and Zoning Commission in October. JUMP designers now need to get final approval for all above-ground work from P&Z and the city's Design Review Committee.

When completed, JUMP is expected to have a six-story, 65,000-square-foot building as its centerpiece and will also include significant green space to frame the new downtown attraction. Extensive outdoor terraces on the building will showcase a collection of antique tractors, in honor of J.R. "Jack" Simplot's legacy.

A billboard at the corner of 9th and Front will regularly display updates on the construction. JUMP is slated for completion in the spring of 2014.
