BCVB Receives Huge Travel Grant

Following a bumpy, and sometimes contentious 12 months, the Boise Convention and Visitors Bureau got some very good news today: The Idaho Travel Council awarded a grant totaling $620,504 to the BCVB, the largest grant awarded by the state organization.

The bureau has operated with little-to-no money since the beginning of the year, ever since a deeply-divided Greater Boise Auditorium District cut off funding. Following a high-profile election in May, the majority of the GBAD board shifted to once again favor BCVB, restoring temporary funding but not without more rancor. The board voted 3-2 to again fund BCVB in a short-term, $24,500 agreement which expires in September. The board is expected to offer a bid for a long-term arrangement soon thereafter.

But it was all smiles today at the annual meeting of the Idaho Travel Council in McCall, when BCVB was awarded the large grant.

"In my five years on the Travel Council, the Boise CVB has been by far the largest producer of room night in any region of our state," said John May, past chair of the travel council. This is a great day for Boise, Region 3 and all of Idaho."
