The Boise School District is expected to reap $5.1 million in additional funding, as a result of Idaho's budget surplus at the end of Fiscal Year 2011.

On July 12, Idaho's Division of Financial Management reported more than $85 million in tax receipts—sales, income and corporate—above projections. Approximately $59.9 million was immediately earmarked for Idaho's K-12 public schools.

"Our intent is spend some time thinking about what to do with the extra funding," Pete Bailey, Boise School District deputy superintendent, told Citydesk. "We want to determine the best way to incorporate that cash into our budget."

Bailey said district officials will make a formal recommendation to the District Board of Trustees at their regularly scheduled meeting in August.
