Boise Tourism Board Expected to Shut Down

It looks like the Boise Convention and Visitor's Bureau's days are numbered. It will be pretty difficult to keep the doors open without funding, and late on July 22, the Greater Boise Auditorium District Board saw to that.

Citing two stinging financial audit reports, the board voted to end funding for the tourism bureau. All funding, $1.3 million annually, for the Tourism Bureau comes from the Auditorium District. It's expected that about a dozen employees at the bureau will lose their jobs. The bureau has been operating for 28 years, promoting tourism for the entire Treasure Valley region.

Financial audits concluded:
-company credit cards were used for personal use
-no oversight of expenses by the bureau director
-missing receipts for employee expenses

The reports do not allege fraud.

The Auditorium District has already indicated that it will begin assembling its own marketing division.
