A historic preservation group is planning a demonstration at Cole School next week to protest its impending demolition.
"Our historic schools are a link not only to our past, but to our future," said Dan Everhart, President of Preservation Idaho. “Generations of Boiseans have passed through their doors. They are more than just buildings; they are a source of community pride and many believe they still have much to offer. The time has come to stand up and protect them for future generations."
The Boise School Board voted recently to tear down Cole and Franklin elementary schools to increase the property's resale value. Preservation Idaho is urging Boise Schools to consider green renovation and preservation, rather than demolition.
The group will hold a rally from 6 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at the corner of Cole Street and Fairview Avenue.
