A modern, blocky house with several levels and lots of windows can be so attractive, and that's just what this gray house with vertical siding, muted red brick and a flat roof is: so attractive. Lynx Way is lined with large, lovely houses, half of which border the Hillcrest Golf Course. Wrought iron gates lead to the driveway of this home, which features a big porch with a sheltering overhang and a bright red door.
The entryway is vaulted and wood-floored and has a mirrored wall at the end. Along the hall is a big floor-to-ceiling bookcase. To the left is a very large carpeted living room. Its focal points are a gas fireplace with mantel and many floor-to-ceiling windows, including sliders that open out onto a flagstone patio. The patio overlooks the New York Canal and, across the canal, part of the Hillcrest Golf Club. The living room includes a wet bar backed with a mirror and glass shelves behind accordion doors, which can be closed when the bar is not in use.
Next to the living room is a formal dining room with hardwood floors and more sliding glass doors opening onto the patio. Behind the dining room is a bright galley kitchen with double windows over the sink. The counters are Corian, the backsplash is Italian tile, the stove is gas, the floor is tile and the lights are newer pendants. There are two areas of butcher block set into the counters. At the end of the kitchen, there is a small breakfast bar and a breakfast nook with windows on two sides and shelves around the corner to store a large number of cookbooks. Stairs lead down to the two-car garage. Back up to the hallway behind the kitchen is a half-bath, and then the hall returns to the front corridor.
Carpeted stairs lead to the upper floor, which houses the master suite. The bedroom is quite large and has windows on three sides. Connected to this room are his-and-hers walk-in closets with built-in dressers. The carpeted bathroom has a double vanity, a tiled garden tub surrounded by windows and a separate tiled shower.
Back downstairs off the main hallway are stairs leading down to a lower level, which features a cozy den next to a full bathroom with a tub/shower combination. A utility room with lots of storage cabinets is also on this level, as is a nice big under-the-stairs closet. More stairs lead to a second basement level, which houses two more bedrooms with attractive egress windows. All the windows in the house are double-paned, and the house is heated with gas and cooled with central air.
The yard is beautifully landscaped with mature evergreen and deciduous trees, bushes and perennials. The yard is fully fenced and completely private. The patio overlooks the canal and has a view of the grass and trees of the golf course. There is no lawn, so no lawn mowing! If the owners wanted to, they could open the front gates to give the property a more open feeling.
Pros: The living room is large and elegant. The view to the patio, canal and golf course is wonderful. Looking down the canal one has a view of the foothills. Being in the master suite is like being up in the trees.
Cons: It would be nice to have at least a half-bath on the basement level.
