In February—as the 2013 Idaho Legislature was accelerating into the fast lane—The Right Truck for Idaho coalition parked itself, quite literally, outside the Statehouse in an effort to push lawmakers to change weight limits on Idaho highways from 105,500 to 129,000 pounds.

Lawmakers debated the issue for hours before finally approving the measure. Proponents say the increased limit will help Idaho businesses move more freight with fewer loads, while critics counter that increased loads will further strain Idaho's ailing highways and bridges.

This coming Monday, June 17, the Idaho Transportation Board subcommittee charged with implementing the legislation will review the new rules during a public meeting, scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at ITD's Boise headquarters on State Street.
